Well, It IS HERE!!!!!!! It has been a long and exciting journey since being crowned Miss Kansas in June. All of my life I have dreamed about becoming Miss America. My dream isn't true JUST yet, but I am going to be on that stage very soon. About a year ago I asked God to use me and my life for Him. I feel as though I am on that journey and am very excited to see if He would like for me to continue my work here in Kansas or all over America. I have put in a lot of hard work to get this far (as I am sure that all of the other girls have as well) and am confident about myself and where I am going.
I would like to apologize for the lack of blogs the past couple of months and to fill you in on what has been going on in my world. I have been speaking on behalf of Numana and the hungry during a State Wide Packaging event, a total of 16 colleges in the state of Kansas packaged food destined for the Horn of Africa. In my spare time I have also been volunteering for the Kansas Food Bank. Every Friday they send out 6,000 meals to schools in Kansas, these meals are sent home to ensure that the children are able to eat meals away from school. I have spoken to middle schools, high schools, and read books to Preschoolers, (always very interesting). Working out, practicing my talent, and trying to keep my head and heart in the right place has been preparing me for this week. It has been quite the ride.
I had the privilege of meeting the current Miss America, Theresa Scanlan, in November at Kansas State University, where she spoke about the Agricultural issues we face as a nation. She directly spoke to our agricultural majors at the university and shared a number of motivational stories. What an inspiration she is to young women AND men everywhere.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of the wonderful people who have gotten me this far. My family is my rock and I am so thankful to have such a wonderful support system. To Doug, Lisa, Sue, Daryl, Kim, Bruce, and all of our wonderful MKO volunteers, board members, sponsors, and directors. Thank you so much for your support, love, and faith in me. I really could NOT have done it without you. You are the key to why this organization is so successful. I am forever grateful to you and all of your hard work for MKO. I thank God every day for this opportunity and for those surrounding me with love. I appreciate each and every one of you.
